Christ's Love

1 Corinthians 13 : 4-8A

Love is patient , love is kind . It does not envy , it does not boast , it is not proud . It is not rude , it is not self-seeking , it is not easily angered , it keeps no record of wrongs . Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth . It always protects , always trusts ,always hopes , always perseveres . Love never fails.

Doesn't this verse discribes exactly what Jesus's love for us !! When we were studying the bible , what moves us is the love of Jesus , it is not self-seeking , it is always so sincere , always so real . No matter how much we sins against Him , his love always never fails.

Brothers , as we match into 2009 with much anticipation , inspite of being overwhelmed by so many bad news that happened around us in 2008 , yet God still faithfully protects us and our families . Let us continue to stay faithful and devote our lives to Him !!

What a great way to start our group's QT in 2009 with "the fruit of the spirit - Gal 5 : 22-23" . With the first quality we need to keep in step with the spirit being : "LOVE" . As i look at the Concordance Bible , its not difficult to find verses that talks about love , in fact there were about 521 verses in the bible that God mentioned about LOVE . There are so many areas we can look at regarding this topic . For example : God's love for us , our love for God , our love for our family , our love for each other , our love for neighbours etc.... Or how about our love for ourselves ??? our love for money ??? there are tons of reflections we can meditate on.

Lets really dive in to the bible and check it out and share with us in this blog or in our d-groups on fridays.

To kick start , would like to provide some of the bible references about LOVE from the book of Matthew , Mark , Luke and John :

MT 3:17 , 5:43-46 , 6:5 , 6:24 , 12:18 , 17:5 , 19:19 , 22:37 , 22:39 , 23:6 , 23:7 , 24 :12

MK 1:11 , 9:7 , 12:30-33

LK 3:22 , 6:27 , 6:32-35 , 7:42 , 10:27 , 11:42-43 , 16:13 , 20:13 , 20:46

Jn 5:42 , 8:42 , 11 :3 , 13:1 , 13:34-35 , 14:15 , 14:21-24 , 14:31 , 15:9-13 , 15:17 , 17:26 , 21:15-17

Enjoy your time with God , lets bring out your child-likeness heart as if we were all young christians , reading the bible for the first time . :)

For those brothers who need help to do QT time together , please don't hasitate to ask brothers around you , we are must willing to help each other , that's what love is all about.

Prayers

I'd like to share this verse:

Nehemiah 1:5-15 (New International Version)

5 Then I said:
"O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father's house, have committed against you. 7 We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.

8 "Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.'

10 "They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand. 11 O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man."
I was cupbearer to the king.

Peace and Joy
Romans 5:1-5
1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we[c] also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Christmas is coming, reveal our life and make peace with God. Rejoice in all circumstances.

What Child Is This?

This is taken from the Dec 21, 2008 entry in ODB

One of our most beloved Christmas carols was written in 1865 by William Dix, an Englishman who managed a maritime insurance company and loved to write hymns. Sung to the English melody “Greensleeves,” some versions use the latter half of the first verse as a chorus for the other verses:

This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard
and angels sing;
Haste, haste to bring Him laud—
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

But in other versions, each stanza is unique. The second verse, rarely sung today, looks beyond the manger to the cross:

Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear, for sinners here,
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Simeon said to Mary, “This Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed” (Luke 2:34-35).

The Child of Christmas came to be our Savior. “Joy, joy for Christ is born, the Babe, the Son of Mary.” — David C. McCasland

The birth of Christ brought God to man; the cross of Christ brings man to God.

What Child is this
Who laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come Peasant, King to own Him;
The King of Kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.

(Chorus)
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

Oh, raise, raise a song on high,
His mother sings her lullaby.
Joy, oh joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.

(Chorus)
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;

Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe,
The Son,
Of Mary.

What Child . . .
Is this . . .
Who Laid . . .
To Rest . . .
On Mary's Lap . . .
On Mary's Lap,
Is Sleeping

(Chorus)
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe,
The Son,
Of Mary

The Babe, the Son of Mary

The Son of Mary

Struggling!

Romans 7
7What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. ...
14We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
21So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God's law; 23but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Romans 8
1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
***********************
Take time to reflect on our sinful nature and and have peace with Christ who has redeemed us. Do not dwell in our weaknesses/struggles but live according to the Spirit so that our strength could be used by GOD.

This will be my continuous struggle that I will need to work on.....

KangXi & His Poems

This was actually what Matthew presented during a communion way back in Sept 2007. I was truly impressed that our Lord God was able to strike the heart of someone with a stature like the Emperor of China and used him to pen these beautiful poems!

Background - Kangxi (康熙)
- Emperor of China from 1661-1722
- Became Emperor at age 6
- Four regents ruled on his behalf until he was 13 and took over the throne
- He ruled 61 years, the longest reigning emperor in history
- He was also considered one of the best, most virtuous Emperors of China’s history

生命之宝 The Treasures of Life

天上宝日月星晨 Heaven’s treasures are the sun, moon and stars
地上宝五谷金银 Earth’s treasures are grain, gold and silver
国需宝正直忠臣 A kingdom’s treasures are righteous officials
家需宝孝子贤孙 A family’s treasures are filial off-springs
黄金白玉非为宝 Gold and jade are not real treasures
只有生命一世闲 Only a life of tranquility is
百岁三万六千日 To live to a hundred is only 36,000 days
若无生命最可怜 Without purpose life is abject misery
来时糊涂去时亡 We come confused and we leave dying
空渡人生梦一场 An empty life is meaningless as a dream
口中吃尽百和味 I have tasted a best of a hundred flavours
身上穿成朝服衣 I have worn only the finest court clothes
五湖四海为上客 My guests are the most esteemed in all the world
如何落在帝王家 How is it that I am born as an emperor?
世间最大为生死 The greatest event in the world is life and death
白玉黄金也枉然 Gold and jade are meaningless then
淡饭清粥充一饥 Even plain rice and porridge can satisfy
锦衣那着几千年 But the finest clothes can’t last a thousand years
天门久为初人闭 Long has heaven’s doors been shut by the first man
福路全是圣子通 The blessed way is opened by the sacred Son
我愿结受神圣子 I am willing to receive the Sacred Son of God
儿子明分得永生 To have the birthright of a son to eternal life

基督死 The Death of Jesus

功成十字血成溪 When the work of the cross is done, blood flowed like a river,
千丈恩流分自西 Grace from the west flowed a thousand yards deep,
身列四衙半夜路 On the midnight road he was subjected to four trials,
徒方三背兩番鸡 Before the rooster crowed twice, three times betrayed by disciple.
五百鞭达寸肌裂 Five hundred lashes tore every inch of skin,
六尺悬垂二盜齐 Two thieves hung on either side, six feet high,
慘恸八垓惊九品 Sadness greater than any had ever known,
七言一毕万灵啼 Seven words, one completed task, ten thousand spirits weep.

This is my favourite poem. It is an unique style which uses 7 characters in each line/sentence. A total of 56 characters fully described how Jesus was put on trial, betrayed by Peter, lashed, crucified alongside 2 thieves, uttered his last 7 words, and was mourned by thousands. This is definitely the Chinese language at its most precise!

Interestingly the poem also contains all the numerals: 1 completed task, 2 thieves, 3 denials, 4 trials, 5 hundred lashes, 6 feet high, 7 last words, “8 graves and 9 officials” (八垓,九品), 10 representing the cross, as well as the measurements: “inch”, “yard” and “feet”.

As Kangxi said, we need to find our purpose since "an empty life is meaningless as a dream". We need to be ready and willing to receive the Sacred Son of God, who died on the cross so that our sins may be washed away.

Be Thou My Vision

This is certainly one of my favourites :)

It's a traditional Christian hymn, which can be traced to Ireland, with Irish monastic traditional text and sung to the tune of an Irish folk song. Read more here. This version is sung by Fernando Ortega

Words by Dallan Forgaill (translated from the Irish by Mary E. Byrne, Versified by Eleanor H. Hull)
Music - Irish folk song "Slane"

Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

In Christ Alone

Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend
Copyright © 2001 Kingsway Thankyou Music

IN CHRIST ALONE my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied –
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine –
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!

The Gift

2 Cor 8:9 (NIV)
Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich

Our Lord Jesus Christ was born in a lowly manger - this is His grace, a gift of salvation, the greatest gift that you and I will ever receive. Cherish it.

The Gift (Jim Brickman)

Winter snow is falling down
Children laughing all around
Lights are turning on
Like a fairy tale come true

Sitting by the fire we made
You're the answer when I prayed
I would find someone
And baby I found you

All I want is to hold you forever
All I need is you more every day
You saved my heart
From being broken apart

You gave your love away
And I'm thankful every day
For the gift

Watching as you softly sleep
What I'd give if I could keep
Just this moment
If only time stood still

But the colors fade away
And the years will make us grey
But baby in my eyes
You'll still be beautiful

All I want is to hold you forever
All I need is you more every day
You saved my heart
From being broken apart

You gave your love away
And I'm thankful every day
For the gift

All I want is to hold you forever
All I need is you more every day
You saved my heart
From being broken apart

You gave your love away
I can't find the words to say
That I'm thankful every day
For the gift

Richard Cheong's eldest son Ryan is getting baptised tomorrow !! It marks another additional kingdom kids to make it !! It also sends a message to all of us that if we continue doing what is right with our kids , they will eventually made it to the kingdom.

So brothers , don't lose heart in doing what is good for our children , we are sowing seeds in their young hearts .

To God be the glory.

Jason
Church Service and Funtime at Pasir Ris Park on 7 Dec 08, 9am
We had lots of fun that day, didn't we? The communion & service was great, the park was beautiful and of course, not forgetting Tony and Dennis who planned the funtime for the kids and adults.....Wah, some of us, although old, were still able to fight like a fierce dog during the dog & bone game (only for adults as we didn't want the children to fight against each other like their daddies and mummies did)....
We had fun and God did bless us with wonderful weather. I believe we all hope to have more of these outings, right?
Lastly, a big 'thank you' to Kevin for the songs; Jason for the communion and Chin Hoe who went to tabao for us (although i wasn't around to taste the yummy food). Who else had a part to play to the successful funtime? If I did not mention your name....sorrie lah....and thank you too for your hard work!!
God bless all of you for all your love. Now a passage of encouragement:
1 John 4:10 - 12
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
Love,
ak

Devo - Confession

These are some excerpts taken from the 8 Dec Daily Devo of ODB. They tied in nicely with one of the topics we prayed about last Friday, so I'd like to share them here:

"Trying to hide from others when we’ve done something wrong comes naturally. We may feel guilty, but our desire to avoid admitting our responsibility is often stronger than our guilt."

"If you’ve been disobedient, it’s time to come out of hiding. God is lovingly calling you and offering His cleansing, forgiveness, and restoration."

"O Lord, help me to come to You
When I would rather hide my sin;
Give me the courage to confess
So I can be made clean within."

Confession is the key that opens the door to forgiveness.

1 John 1:9 (NIV) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Some thoughts:
While my sins were all duly redeemed when I confessed and got baptized, inevitably my ugly human nature surfaces every now and then, and I will fall unwittingly to the lures of Satan. It is not easy for me to admit that I've fallen and I've sinned again, but the grace and love of the Lord will always be there to cleanse me if I could just pluck up the courage.

Theme verse for year 2009 :

Galatians 5 : 22-24

But the fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, self-Control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the spirit.

3 areas of focus:

God :

Whole zone’s bible study to focus on one fruit of the spirit , how can we work towards having those spiritual qualities. Example:

January – Love
February –Joy
March-Peace
April-Patience
May-June – Kindness
July-Goodness
August-Faithfulness
Sep-October-Passage to Patmos Part 2
November-Gentleness
December-Self-control

Sunday prayer : As it is already the tradition of our zone for a few years , we will continue to have father & mother to take turn to pray together on the 1st & 3rd week of every month. On Sunday mornings.

One another :

Prayer partners: One month basis , each one of us will have a prayer partner , we can chose whichever person in the group , the partner will decide how often they will meet for prayer together, through this prayer partnering,we will be able to know each other even more. Each month , we will organise one activities that involves the whole zone , activities like :

1. Children’s event , funtime in the park , children devo ,etc...
2. Sports event for the fathers (Table tennis , badminton , street soccer etc.....)
3. Camping trips

Youtube Commentary 2 - Love One Another

Quantity and quality time must be spent with anyone you wish to draw closer to. These are the basics of developing long and lasting friendships. Realness, honesty and truth are also attributes that will help you welcome people in your life. In my life I've learned to develop such friendships with several people over the years and it takes work to maintain them. In a week or so I am driving ten hours to spend time with a friend who studied the bible and baptized me seventeen and a half years ago. We were friends then, we are friends today and I hope to one day leave this earthly life being this person's friend. Sacrifices must be made in order for that to take place. Jesus was the ultimate example of friendship maker.

Matthew 11:19 (NIV)
19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." ' But wisdom is proved right by her actions."

We as disciples are called to be more than just friends to one another. We are called to love one another as Jesus loved us.

John 15:13 (NIV)
13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

How is the love of God in your life these days?

John 13:34-35 (NIV)
34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

This kind of love must be present in our lives if we claim to be followers of Christ.

Let the following passage sober you if you are not where you know you should be as a disciple.

Matthew 24:12-13 (NIV)
12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.

你错过了吗? Did You Miss It?

There used to be an angel...he's always afraid of wasting time, therefore he lived everyday in a constant rush.

One day, God summoned for a snail and asked the angel to bring the snail to Him.

Now the snail moved very slowly, and the angel was getting impatient since lots of time have been wasted.

Then the angel began to smell the fragrance of the flowers..to notice the beautiful butterflies flying around him. He saw the awesome last rays of the sun setting and then marvelled at the night sky full of stars.

And then he realized. God's intention was for the snail to show him the way.

Our life on Earth is but a few decades, and in our haste we may have missed so many things. So remember - no matter how busy we are, we still need to take a rest and we still need to do what we love best.

I Can Only Imagine

This is a song recorded by contemporary Christian music group MercyMe. Released on MercyMe's 2001 debut album Almost There, the song received major airplay on both Christian and mainstream radio. It earned three Dove Awards in 2002 for "Pop Song", "Song of the Year", and "Songwriter of the Year" for its author and MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard.

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

I can only imagine

[Chorus]

I can only imagine [x2]

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you

I can only imagine

Whose Battle Is It?
“But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out there tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!” 2 Chronicles 20:17 (NLT)

Love Is a Choice

… That you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Deuteronomy 30:20 (NIV)

It is interesting to interpret "May Love". Sometime we think we love him but our actions prove more that we love ourselves. Love is a commitment. Did we commit to him to read his words and talk to him?
Hmmm. need to repent more on prayer.

Yesterday night managed to spent some time talking to my two gals before they sleeps .

Both of them starts asking me about my childhood story , i managed to tell them a bit of my childhood , some good and bad things that i did when i was young . we had a good laugh .....

Suddenly felt that my kids have grown alot , especially Janelle , she says that she should start to study harder when she is younger , so that she can work and contribute more to the family . I told her eventhough she will be P5 next year , it is still not too late to work hard.

We end up with a prayer and in their prayer , i can feel that they are more sincere then any other days , praying for their future and also for their love ones.

It's the start that stops most people

So glad that we started blogging and share encouraging news & insights!

What stops people from getting started. There are a few primary causes:
- Fear of failure (lack of faith)
- Fear of responsibility
- Conformity
- SNIOP (Susceptible to the Negative Influence of Other People)

"What would stop me?" You either take responsibility for your life or you make excuses for the way you live. The choice is yours.

Quote of the day

Quote of the day

Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. ~ Dwight Eisenhower

Youtube Commentary 1 - Training

This is a series of commentaries that our brother-in-Christ Oswald Chu, from the Toronto Church of Christ, has been sharing on Facebook. I have seeked permission from him to share them on this blog. Each commentary usually starts with a video segment, followed by selected scriptures and comments. Enjoy!

The Last Samurai

1 Corinthians 9:25 (NIV)
25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

1 Timothy 4:7-8 (NIV)
7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)
17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Luke 11:1 (NIV)
1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."

When we have the determination and commitment we will achieve our goals. For us as disciples, our goal of training is:

Luke 6:40 (NIV)
40 A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

Science Vs God

"Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ." The atheist professor of philosophy paused before his class and then asked one of his new students to stand.

"You're a Christian, aren't you, son?"

"Yes sir," the student answered.

"So you believe in God?"

"Absolutely."

"Is God good?"

"Sure! God's good."

"Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?" !

"Yes."

"Are you good or evil?"

"The Bible says I'm evil".

The professor grinned knowingly. "Aha! The Bible!" He considered for a moment.

"Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help him? Would you try?"

"Yes sir, I would."

"So you're good...!"

"I wouldn't say that."

"But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't."

The student did not answer, so the professor continued.

"He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?"

The student remained silent.

"No, you can't, can you?" the professor says.

He took a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.

"Let's start again, young fella, Is God good?"

"Er...yes," the student says.

"Is Satan good?"

The student didn't hesitate on this one! "No."

"Then where does Satan come from?"

The student answered: "From...God..."

"That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?"

"Yes, sir."

"Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything, correct?"

"Yes."

"So who created evil?" The professor continued, "If God created everything, then God created evil, since evil exists, and according to the principle that our works define who we are, then God is evil."

Without allowing the student to answer, the professor continued:

"Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?"

The student answered: "Yes."

"So who created them?"

The student did not answer again, so the professor repeated his question.

"Who created them?"

There was still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer broke away to pace in front of the classroom. The class was mesmerized.

"Tell me," he continued onto another student.

"Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son?"

The student's voice was confident: "Yes, professor, I do."

The old man stopped pacing. "Science says you have five senses that you use to identify and observe the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?"

"No sir. I've never seen Him"

"Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?"

"No, sir, I have not."

"Have you ever actually felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelled your Jesus? Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter?"

"No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't."

"Yet you still believe in him?"

"Yes."

"According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?"

"Nothing," the student replied. "I only have my faith."

"Yes, faith," the professor repeated. "And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith."

The student stood quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own.

"Professor, is there such thing as heat?"

"Yes," the professor replies. "There's heat."

"And is there such a thing as cold?"

"Yes, son, there's cold too."

"No sir, there isn't."

The professor turned to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly became very quiet. The student began to explain.

"You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, unlimited heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything called 'cold'. We can hit up to 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold; otherwise we would be able to go colder than the lowest -458 degrees.

Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-458 F) is the total absence of heat. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat.

We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it."

There was silence across the room. A pen dropped somewhere in the classroom and sounded like a hammer.

"What about darkness, professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?"

"Yes," the professor replied without hesitation. "What is night if it isn't darkness?"

"You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light, but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?"

The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him. This will be a good semester.

"So what point are you making, young man?"

"Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with, and so your conclusion must also be flawed."

The professor's face could not hide his surprise this time. "Flawed? Can you explain how?"

"You are working on the premise of duality," the student explains.

"You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought.

It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it."

"Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?"

"If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do"

"Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?"

The professor began to shake his head, still smiling, as he realized where the argument was going. A very good semester, indeed.

"Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?"

The class was in uproar. The student remained silent until the commotion had subsided.

"To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student, let me give you an example of what I mean."

The student looked around the room. "Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?" The class broke out into laughter.

"Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt the professor's brain, touched or smelled the professor's brain? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?"

Now the room was silent. The professor just stared at the student, his face unreadable.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the old man answered. "I guess you'll have to take them on faith."

"Now, you accept that there is faith, and, in fact, faith exists with life,"

The student continued. "Now, sir, is there such a thing as evil?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course, there is. We see it everyday. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil! does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God.

God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that results when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

First Post....Welcome!

I have been meaning to start a blog that will chronicle my walk with God, but have been procrastinating on it. And I guess He wasn't too pleased about it, so He got the wives in our group to start one first. Well the husbands got interested too, since this would be an alternative way for us to share our thoughts and to interact with each other. Thus this blog is finally born....

Do feel free to post your thoughts, share some pics, talk about your QT, unload your worldly burdens here. This shall be our new "home" on the internet ;)
